Area by area

Diu neighbourhoods compared

  1. 01

    Near Nagoa Beach

Best for: Beach holidays and families who want sand and resort facilities close by

Good to know: Resorts and guesthouses cluster near Nagoa, with the palms and the bay on your doorstep. The trade-off is distance from the old town, so you will need a taxi or scooter for sightseeing. Good for longer, quiet stays.

  2. 02

    Old town and Fort Road

Best for: Heritage lovers who want to walk to the churches, museum and fort

Good to know: Staying near the Zampa Gateway and the fort puts you within walking distance of most heritage sights and restaurants. Rooms are often smaller, and lanes can be narrow, so check access if travelling with older relatives.

  3. 03

    Ghoghla and the island entrance

Best for: Travellers who like sea views and an easy arrival or departure

Good to know: Ghoghla offers a developed beach, lifeguards and views of the forts. It is a short ride to the old town and handy for the road to the mainland. Some hotels here have direct sea views.

  4. 04

    Chakratirth and the central coast

Best for: Quieter stays with sunset views close to the town

Good to know: The central coast around Chakratirth is calm and close to the memorial and town. Options are fewer, so book ahead in the season.

Before you book

What to check when booking for older travellers

  • Ask for a lift, or a ground-floor room — many heritage hotels have steps and no lift.
  • Check how far the hotel is from the sights you care about, in minutes by road, not kilometres.
  • Prefer free cancellation until close to the date, in case plans or health change.
  • Look for 24-hour reception, in-house dining and a doctor-on-call policy.
  • Read recent reviews for noise — old-city streets and wedding venues can be loud late.
