For parents and senior travellers
Easy transfers to and in Gumla
- Use Ranchi as a comfortable base and make Gumla a long day trip with a hired car and driver.
- Go between November and February; heat and monsoon rain both make the rough roads harder.
- Carry water, snacks, medicines and a basic first-aid kit; village facilities are minimal and hospitals are in Gumla or Ranchi.
- Check road conditions before Tanginath and Palkot, and travel only in daylight.
- Ask the airline or railway for wheelchair or porter assistance when you book, not on the day.
- Pre-book the pickup from the airport or station, so nobody has to negotiate with drivers after a long journey.
- Choose arrivals in daylight where you can, and keep the first afternoon free to rest.
