Plan 01

1 day in Igatpuri

  1. 01

Day 1: Valley, temple and fort

Arrive by train or car in the morning. Stop at Camel Valley for the view and, in the monsoon, the waterfall, then walk to the Ghatandevi temple a short distance away. Drive to Tringalwadi village and walk to the Jain caves at the base of the fort; fit visitors can continue to the fort for the full two-hour circuit. Eat lunch at your resort and rest. In the late afternoon, visit Bhavali Dam or return to the station for a platform snack before your train.

    StopTime neededWalkingBest time
Ghatandevi Temple20-30 minutesEasyEarly morning, or after the rains for green hills behind the shrine
Bhavali Dam1-2 hoursEasyJuly to October, when the reservoir is full and the hills are green

Pace: All the stops today are easy on the legs.

Plan 02

2 days in Igatpuri

  1. 01

Day 1: Valleys and the ghat

Begin with Camel Valley and the Bhatsa River Valley views, then visit Ghatandevi temple. After lunch and a rest, drive down the ghat to Vihigaon (Ashoka) waterfall if it is the monsoon, going on a weekday if you can, and return via the Thal Ghat road at golden hour.

    Day 2: Fort and reservoir

Walk to the Tringalwadi Jain caves early, and continue to the fort if energy allows. Return for lunch and rest. In the afternoon, visit Bhavali Dam for a slow lakeside walk, then finish with a snack at Igatpuri station before departing.

Bhavali Dam1-2 hoursEasyJuly to October, when the reservoir is full and the hills are green

Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.

With parents at Tringalwadi Jain Caves: About a 20-minute walk from the village on an uneven path, with a few rock steps near the shrine. There is little seating, and no shade at midday. Seniors who cannot manage the fort can still reach the caves slowly and rest there.

Settle into your resort, then visit Camel Valley and Ghatandevi temple in the afternoon. Keep dinner at the resort and an early night.

Guides for the stops on these routes

Pacing

Pacing a Igatpuri trip for parents and children

  • Hire a car and driver for the day: sights are scattered and the ghat road is easier with someone who knows it.
  • Choose a resort with lifts or ground-floor rooms; ask before booking, as listings vary.
  • Avoid wet rock and steep edges at Camel Valley, Vihigaon and Bhavali Dam; stay behind barriers.
  • Carry an umbrella, a light rain jacket and shoes with grip from June to September.
  • Limit yourself to one or two outings a day and rest after lunch, especially in the monsoon.
  • Tringalwadi's fort climb has rock-cut steps without rails; older visitors can stop at the Jain caves at the base.
