Indore neighbourhoods compared

  1. 01

Near Rajwada and the old centre

Best for: Travellers who want to walk to Rajwada, Kanch Mandir and Sarafa Bazaar

Good to know: Convenient for sights and food but noisy, with crowded lanes and limited car access. Check lifts and drop-off before booking for older relatives.

  2. 02

Vijay Nagar and the AB Road corridor

Best for: Families who want modern hotels, malls and restaurants

Good to know: Newer, wider roads and many hotels. Travel to the old centre takes about 20 to 40 minutes depending on traffic.

  3. 03

Palasia and the central business area

Best for: First-time visitors and older travellers

Good to know: Close to Chhappan Dukan, with a good choice of hotels and restaurants and easier access to both the old centre and the airport road.

  4. 04

Near the airport and the Bijasan side

Best for: Very short stays or early flights

Good to know: Convenient for late arrivals and quick departures, but far from the old city. Choose it only for an overnight stop.

Before you book

What to check when booking for older travellers

  • Ask for a lift, or a ground-floor room — many heritage hotels have steps and no lift.
  • Check how far the hotel is from the sights you care about, in minutes by road, not kilometres.
  • Prefer free cancellation until close to the date, in case plans or health change.
  • Look for 24-hour reception, in-house dining and a doctor-on-call policy.
  • Read recent reviews for noise — old-city streets and wedding venues can be loud late.
