Plan 01
1 day at Jog Falls
- 01
Day 1: The falls and the backwaters
Reach the rim viewpoint early, while the gorge is clearest of cloud, and spend an hour at the railings. If the flow is strong, take your time over the different streams from the top. After a simple lunch, drive to Linganamakki Dam to see the reservoir that controls the falls, and return in the late afternoon for a second look if the mist has lifted.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Linganamakki Dam 1-2 hours Easy Post-monsoon, when the reservoir is full and the weather clearer Pace: All the stops today are easy on the legs.
Plan 02
2 days at Jog Falls
- 01
Day 1: Falls and dam
Visit the falls at opening time and give them a relaxed morning. Drive to Linganamakki Dam after lunch and, if the weather suits, add the backwaters at Honnemaradu for a calm late afternoon.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Linganamakki Dam 1-2 hours Easy Post-monsoon, when the reservoir is full and the weather clearer Honnemaradu Half a day Easy Post-monsoon for clear skies; early morning for sunrise Pace: All the stops today are easy on the legs.

Day 2: Sagara temples
Drive to Sagara, then see the Rameshwara temple at Keladi and the Aghoreshwara temple at Ikkeri, both Keladi Nayaka monuments only a few kilometres from town. Return via Sagara for lunch and an unhurried afternoon.
Plan 03
3 days at Jog Falls
- 01
Day 1: The falls
Make the falls the whole day: early morning at the rim viewpoint, a long break, and a return at the end of the afternoon. Keep time flexible for cloud and rain.
- 02
Day 2: Reservoir and pilgrimage
Start at Linganamakki Dam, then continue to the backwaters. If you want to visit Sigandur, allow a full day because the route includes a vehicle barge crossing and the temple draws crowds, especially on weekends and during the Ashada month.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Linganamakki Dam 1-2 hours Easy Post-monsoon, when the reservoir is full and the weather clearer Pace: All the stops today are easy on the legs.
- 03
Day 3: Temples and herons
Spend the morning at Keladi and Ikkeri, then drive on to Gudavi Bird Sanctuary near Sorab if you are travelling in the nesting season. Check road and weather conditions locally before committing, as the route is long.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Gudavi Bird Sanctuary Half a day, plus travel Easy Nesting season, generally through and after the monsoon; confirm locally Pace: All the stops today are easy on the legs.

Pacing
Pacing a Jog Falls trip for parents and children
- Visit in the early morning, when the gorge is clearest and the path from the car park to the viewpoint is quietest.
- The main viewpoint is near the car park, but the stepped descent to the base is long and steep; older travellers are better off enjoying the rim and skipping the descent.
- In the monsoon, paths and railings become wet and slippery. Wear shoes with grip and carry a light rain jacket.
- Facilities are basic; bring water, any medication and a snack, and have lunch plans in Sagara.
- Check locally that the falls are flowing before a long drive outside the monsoon, since the dam controls the supply.
- Keep a spare day for weather, as heavy rain can limit visibility and slow road travel.
