Pacing
Pacing a Kathua trip for parents and children
- Do Jasrota and the Parole shrines early, before the heat, and rest after lunch.
- Choose a hotel on NH 44 or in the town with lift access if mobility is limited.
- Hill trips to Basohli, Bani and Sarthal are long and winding; hire a driver and plan an overnight, not a rushed day.
- Carry regular medicines and cash; facilities are thin outside Kathua town.
- Avoid July and August, when heavy monsoon rain can disrupt roads.
- Heat: Summers reach around 40 degrees C. Plan outdoor stops for early morning between April and September.
