Day 1: Chakrashila and Dheer Beel
Start early with Chakrashila Wildlife Sanctuary, about 20 km from town, for a short walk and a look for golden langurs with a guide arranged through Bodoland Tourism. Continue to Dheer Beel, about 30 km from town, for an hour by the water. Lunch in town, rest, and try Bodo dishes at a local eatery in the evening.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Dheer Beel 2 to 3 hours Easy November to February for migratory birds; early morning Chakrashila Wildlife Sanctuary Half a day Moderate November to March for walking; early morning for langurs and birds Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.
With parents at Chakrashila Wildlife Sanctuary: Trails are forest tracks with uneven ground and few places to sit, and there are no facilities inside to rely on. Older travellers can enjoy the edge of the sanctuary and the lakes from the road, and leave longer treks to the fit.

Day 1: Chakrashila, Baukhungri and Dheer Beel
Spend the morning at Chakrashila and, if fit, the Baukhungri hill walk. Drive on to Dheer Beel for the afternoon light and birds. Return to Kokrajhar for dinner.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Dheer Beel 2 to 3 hours Easy November to February for migratory birds; early morning Baukhungri Hill 2 to 4 hours, including the drive Demanding Mid-April for the festival; otherwise November to March, early morning Pace: Baukhungri Hill involves a lot of walking or steps — do it early, and keep the rest of the day light.
With parents at Baukhungri Hill: The climb is on uneven forest paths with no handrails and little shade or seating, and festival days are very crowded. Most older visitors are better enjoying the base, the cultural programme and the food stalls than going to the summit.

Day 2: Raimona and Saralpara
Leave before dawn for the 60 km drive to Raimona National Park. Walk short stretches of the forest road towards Saralpara, picnic by the stream and return by late afternoon.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Saralpara Most of a day, including travel Easy November to March; avoid heavy monsoon rain Raimona National Park Half a day to a full day, including the drive Moderate November to March, when roads are drier and walking is comfortable; the monsoon makes forest tracks slow Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.
With parents at Raimona National Park: There are no developed viewing platforms, benches or toilets, and tracks are rough, so the trip suits fit older travellers. Stay in the car for wildlife and walk only short, flat stretches of the public road with a guide. Carry water, snacks and any medicines.

Pacing
Pacing a Kokrajhar trip for parents and children
- Plan one outing a day and return to town for rest; the forest roads are long and rough.
- Use a private car with a driver. Public transport to the sanctuaries and Raimona is limited.
- Carry water, snacks and medicines on every trip; there are few shops outside town.
- Skip the Baukhungri summit and festival crowds if you have knee or heart problems; the base and cultural events are enough.
- Avoid April to September for forest trips, when rain and mud make tracks difficult.
- Heat and rain: Summers are warm and humid, and June to August brings heavy monsoon rain. Plan forest trips for November to March.
