The short answer
Arasinagundi Falls: what visitors should know first
Go in the post-monsoon months with a local guide. The trail is slippery in the rains and the falls are small in summer. It is a good half-day if you can walk 2 km each way; it is not for anyone who struggles with uneven ground.

Why it matters
Why Arasinagundi Falls is worth your time
Arasinagundi (also spelt Arishina Gundi) is the easiest waterfall to reach from Kollur and gives visitors a taste of the sanctuary forest without a full-day trek. The falls feed the streams of the Souparnika catchment, which keeps the valley green year-round.
It is also a reminder that Kollur is not only a temple town. The surrounding forest has some of the wettest country in Karnataka, and a short walk takes you into it.

Plan your visit
How to experience it
Hire a vehicle or jeep to the trail start, then walk with a local guide. The forest begins about 2 km from Kollur, and entry requires permission from the sanctuary staff. The walk is a mixture of forest track and rocky steps and takes an hour or more each way depending on pace.
The falls are most dramatic in July to September but the trail is hardest then; October to February is easier for walking, with plenty of water still falling. In summer, flow drops. Carry water and wear shoes with grip. Leeches are common in the rains.
Combine the walk with a morning darshan at the temple or an afternoon at Kodachadri. Do not attempt it in heavy rain or alone.
Plan with confidence
Small decisions that make the visit easier.
