Plan 01

1 day in Kuta

  1. 01

Day 1: Beach, lane and sunset

Start with a late breakfast, then walk down Poppies Lane I to the beach road. Spend the late morning at Beachwalk or Discovery mall to avoid the heat, and have lunch at a vegetarian Indian restaurant on Jalan Kartika Plaza. In the late afternoon, walk onto Kuta Beach and settle at a café for the sunset. If you have energy left, stop at the Bali Bombing Memorial on Jalan Legian by taxi before dinner.

    StopTime neededWalkingBest time
Poppies Lane I30–45 minutesModerateMorning, when it is quieter; late afternoon on the way to the beach
Kuta Beach1–2 hours, around sunsetEasyLate afternoon to sunset; the dry months from about May to September give the clearest skies
Bali Bombing Memorial (Ground Zero)15–30 minutesEasyMorning or evening; October 12 sees the annual commemoration, which draws crowds

Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.

With parents at Poppies Lane I: The lane is flat but very narrow, with uneven surfaces and scooters passing within reach; there is nowhere to sit except in cafés. Older travellers may prefer to walk the short end near the beach or sit in a café.

Plan 02

2 days in Kuta

  1. 01

    Day 1: Beach and lanes

Take a gentle morning on Kuta Beach, watching a surf lesson or joining one if you are fit. After lunch and a rest, walk Poppies Lane I and have an early dinner at Poppies Restaurant. Finish with a short sunset walk.

  2. 02

Day 2: Water park or shopping

Spend the morning at Waterbom Bali if you have children, or at the Kuta Art Market and Joger if shopping is the priority. Rest through midday, then visit Beachwalk or Discovery mall for a sunset meal. Add the Bali Bombing Memorial if you want quiet reflection.

    StopTime neededWalkingBest time

Kuta Art Market30–60 minutesModerateMorning, when it is cooler and less crowded

Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.

With parents at Waterbom Bali: Paths are mostly level and the gardens give shade, but slide towers involve many steps and wet floors are slippery. Grandparents can sit at poolside tables and watch.

With parents at Kuta Art Market: The three-floor building gives shade but has no air conditioning and is narrow, crowded and warm in the afternoon; it is only partly wheelchair-friendly. Take a shorter visit in the morning and avoid busy hours.

Plan 03

3 days in Kuta

  1. 01

    Day 1: Arrive and unwind

Arrive, rest and take a short beach walk at sunset. Have dinner at one of the vegetarian Indian restaurants near Jalan Kartika Plaza so that the first night is simple.

  2. 02

    Day 2: Family day

Spend the morning at Waterbom Bali, rest at midday, then visit the Bali Sea Turtle Society if you are here between about May and October. End with a sunset at the Discovery mall terrace.

Guides for the stops on these routes

Pacing

Pacing a Kuta trip for parents and children

  • Take taxis or ride-hailing cars for anything beyond a short walk; pavements are uneven and scooters use them.
  • Swim only between lifeguard flags; strong currents affect even confident swimmers.
  • Use malls such as Beachwalk and Discovery as rest stops with seating, toilets and shade, but note reports of uneven floors and unreliable lifts at Discovery.
  • Avoid midday heat and humidity; plan outings for morning and late afternoon.
  • Buy travel insurance with medical cover and know where BIMC Hospital Kuta is.
  • Ask for ground-floor or lift-served rooms and request a quiet room away from music and nightlife.
