Why it matters
Why Kuredu Express is worth your time
A channel like Kuredu Express shows what makes the Maldives special underwater: nutrient-rich water moving through gaps in the atoll rim brings fish and the sharks that follow them. Lhaviyani's position on the atoll chain gives resorts here quick access to several such sites, which is why diving is the area's identity rather than a side offer.
For most Indian families, this will not be a first stop. It is useful to know that the better sites in the atoll are separated by difficulty. A strong diver can spend a week of mornings at different channels and thilas. A beginner or snorkeller can have an equally good holiday on the house reef. Understanding that split, and choosing honestly, makes planning easier and safer.

How to experience it
Kuredu Express is a channel where water rushes between reef edges, and published dive guides describe depths from about 5 to 30 metres, current that is strong and variable, and a difficulty rating of intermediate to advanced. Divers drop in at the channel mouth and drift along the reef edge, holding on or hooking in to watch the show. Grey reef sharks are reported present throughout the year, with eagle rays, tuna, barracuda, napoleon wrasse and turtles also seen.
This is a dive to book through a dive centre, not to improvise. Expect a careful briefing about entry, depth limits and surface marker buoys. The best guides will cancel or switch site if the current looks wrong. Dry-season months, from December to April, are described as giving more predictable channel conditions.
If you are a couple or family with mixed abilities, split the day. Let certified divers go out while others snorkel the house reef or relax at the resort. Meet for lunch afterwards. Do not push a less experienced diver to join because everyone else is going.
Plan with confidence
Small decisions that make the visit easier.
