The short answer
Kuredu Island Resort & Spa: what visitors should know first

Why it matters
Why Kuredu Island Resort & Spa is worth your time
Kuredu has been a fixture of Lhaviyani Atoll tourism for years, and its dive centre, Prodivers, is described on the resort site as one of the longest-running in the Maldives, with 60 or more dive sites and a hyperbaric chamber on the island. For a family travelling with older relatives, that on-site medical-adjacent capacity is a point worth knowing about, although it is no substitute for insurance.
The resort also shows how Maldivian tourism works: one island, one operator, a seaplane to reach it. That keeps things simple but also means you rely on the resort for everything from meals to excursions. Choosing a resort that actually handles your dietary needs is therefore more important here than in a city.

How to experience it
Kuredu is a large resort island, with the official site listing 389 rooms across 16 categories in three areas: a main area, O Resort for ages 12 and up, and Sangu Resort for ages 15 and up. Facilities include seven restaurants, 14 restaurants and bars in all, a golf course, two spas, and tennis and padel courts. The beach runs about 3.5 kilometres.
Pick your area according to who is travelling. Families with younger children should stay in the main area, while adults travelling together may prefer the age-restricted sections. Ask about the walk to the beach, the restaurant and the dive centre when you choose a room.
Food is the question for Indian vegetarian diners. The official site lists Mediterranean, seafood, Japanese and buffet restaurants but says nothing about Indian, vegetarian or Jain meals. Write to the resort before booking and ask for confirmation in writing, including how Jain meals (no onion, garlic or root vegetables) are prepared. A resort of this size usually has kitchen capacity, but do not assume.
Plan with confidence
Before you book the room.
- Ask in writing about vegetarian, Indian and Jain meals
- Confirm seaplane timing against your flight
- Choose the room area by walking distance
- Buy travel insurance that covers medical evacuation

Timing, access and comfort
- Area
- Kuredu Island, Lhaviyani Atoll
- Time needed
- Stay of 4-7 nights
- Best time
- Dry season, December to April; shoulder months can be cheaper
- Walking level
- Moderate
- Senior comfort
- Distances across the island are longer than at small resorts, so ask about buggies or the nearest room category to the main area. Sandy paths are level, but heat and sun need breaks. The resort is large, which can mean more walking and more people.
- Tickets and access
- Hotel guests only; day visits are not something I could confirm, so ask the resort. Transfers are by chartered seaplane from Velana International Airport during daylight hours, which may mean an overnight in Malé if your flight lands late.
