Plan 01
1 day in Mahendragarh
- 01
Day 1: Two forts and a stepwell
Start at Mahendragarh Fort in the morning, checking at the gate about access. Drive about 12 km to Madhogarh Fort and take the paved road to the car park, then walk the ramparts, palace and stepwell. Have lunch in town, rest, and spend the late afternoon in the Shekhawati-style havelis of Madhogarh village or on a drive through the countryside.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Mahendragarh Fort 45 to 60 minutes Easy Morning, October to March Madhogarh Fort 1.5 to 2 hours Moderate October to March, or just after the monsoon Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.
With parents at Madhogarh Fort: A paved road of about 2.6 km runs from the village to a car park near the palace, so the climb is mostly by vehicle. The ramparts and tracks inside are uneven and exposed; skip the foot track to the garrison building if tired.

Drive to Narnaul in the morning for Jal Mahal, the tomb of Shah Quli Khan and Chor Gumbad, then head to Dhosi Hill for a short climb to the crater if energy allows.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Tomb of Shah Quli Khan 20 to 30 minutes Easy Morning or late afternoon Dhosi Hill Half a day Demanding October to March; avoid Somvati Amavasya unless you want the crowds Pace: Dhosi Hill involves a lot of walking or steps — do it early, and keep the rest of the day light.

Guides for the stops on these routes
Pacing
Pacing a Mahendragarh trip for parents and children
- Visit the forts and hills in the first hours after sunrise, when it is cooler and shade matters less.
- Drive up to the car park at Madhogarh rather than walking the road; the palace and ramparts are then a short walk.
- Skip the foot track and stepwell if steps are difficult; the ramparts alone give a good view.
- Treat Dhosi Hill as optional: the stair climb is long and exposed, so choose a cool morning or go only partway.
- Carry water, a hat and any medicines; facilities at the sights are limited.
- Confirm access at the gate before you travel; restoration work can close parts of the forts.
