For parents and senior travellers
Easy transfers to and in Mainpat
- Plan one or two sights a day and a rest after lunch; the plateau roads are tiring even over short distances.
- The roadside viewpoints and Tiger Point are the easiest sights; treat the stairway at Tiger Point as optional, as it is reported to be slippery.
- Do the climb from Ambikapur in daylight and avoid driving after dusk, as the road is steep and signage is poor.
- Carry a warm layer in winter and a rain jacket in the monsoon; the plateau is cooler than the plains and cloud can settle quickly.
- Mobile signal is weak, so share your plan with family and keep cash and water in the car.
- Ask the airline or railway for wheelchair or porter assistance when you book, not on the day.
- Pre-book the pickup from the airport or station, so nobody has to negotiate with drivers after a long journey.
- Choose arrivals in daylight where you can, and keep the first afternoon free to rest.
