Day 1: Viewpoints and a Tibetan monastery
Leave Ambikapur early and stop briefly at Ulta Pani on the way up. Visit the Tibetan camps and Dagpo Shedrupling Monastery in the morning, when it is quiet. After a simple lunch, drive to Tiger Point and Jaljali, and finish at Mehta Point for the sunset. Start the descent while there is still light, since the road is steep and hard to navigate after dark.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Ulta Pani (Bisar Pani) 10-20 minutes Easy Any daylight; fits as a stop on the way up Dagpo Shedrupling Monastery 45-60 minutes Easy Morning, in clear weather Jaljali (Bouncing Land) 30-45 minutes Easy Dry-to-damp weather in daylight; mornings are comfortable Mehta Point 45-90 minutes Easy Late afternoon to sunset; clear post-monsoon and winter days Pace: All the stops today are easy on the legs.

Day 2: Waterfalls
Start early for Tiger Point, which is close to the village, and then make the longer drive to Fish Point for the Machali river view. Return for a late lunch and leave for Ambikapur before the afternoon fades, or stay on a second night.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Fish Point (Machali Point) 1-2 hours including the drive Moderate Post-monsoon and winter mornings, with a full river Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.
With parents at Fish Point (Machali Point): The drive is longer and the plateau roads are not smooth everywhere, so allow for a tiring half day. The viewing area itself needs only modest walking, but there is little shade and facilities may be basic. Avoid driving back after dark.

Guides for the stops on these routes
Pacing
Pacing a Mainpat trip for parents and children
- Plan one or two sights a day and a rest after lunch; the plateau roads are tiring even over short distances.
- The roadside viewpoints and Tiger Point are the easiest sights; treat the stairway at Tiger Point as optional, as it is reported to be slippery.
- Do the climb from Ambikapur in daylight and avoid driving after dusk, as the road is steep and signage is poor.
- Carry a warm layer in winter and a rain jacket in the monsoon; the plateau is cooler than the plains and cloud can settle quickly.
- Ask for a chair or a seat at the back in a monastery hall; floor seating is common and shoes come off at the door.
- Mobile signal is weak, so share your plan with family and keep cash and water in the car.
