Day 1: Intramuros and the bay
Reach Intramuros soon after it opens, before the heat. Start at Fort Santiago, then walk to San Agustin Church for the painted ceiling and its museum, and look into Manila Cathedral and Casa Manila if energy allows. Take a long lunch in air-conditioned surroundings and rest. In the late afternoon, ride to Rizal Park and walk to the monument, then finish on the Manila Baywalk to watch the sun go down over the bay.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Intramuros Half a day; a full day if you add Casa Manila and the walls Moderate Early morning on a weekday, December to February Fort Santiago 1 to 1.5 hours Moderate Early morning, December to February San Agustin Church 1 to 1.5 hours Easy Morning, outside mass times Manila Cathedral 30 to 45 minutes Easy Morning, outside services Casa Manila 45 minutes to 1 hour Moderate Mid-morning or early afternoon Rizal Park 1 to 2 hours Moderate Early morning or late afternoon Manila Baywalk 1 hour Easy Late afternoon, November to March Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.
With parents at Intramuros: The district is flat but the paving is uneven and distances between sights are longer than they look. Shade is patchy and seating is limited, so older travellers do best with a car or kalesa between stops and a rest by midday.
With parents at Fort Santiago: Paths cross open ground with limited shade and some uneven stone, so the heat is the main issue. Seating is limited, and there are steps at the gate and the ramparts that older visitors can skip.

Day 2: Museums, Binondo and the bay
Spend the morning at the National Museum of Fine Arts for the Spoliarium and then Rizal Park. Go to Binondo for a late lunch along Ongpin Street and see Binondo Church. End with sunset on the Manila Baywalk.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Binondo 2 to 3 hours Moderate Weekday morning; Chinese New Year is festive but crowded National Museum of Fine Arts 1 to 1.5 hours Easy Weekday morning; good in rain or heat Rizal Park 1 to 2 hours Moderate Early morning or late afternoon Binondo Church 30 minutes Easy Morning, outside masses Manila Baywalk 1 hour Easy Late afternoon, November to March Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.
With parents at Binondo: The streets are flat but narrow and crowded, with heavy traffic and little shade. A short guided or private-car tour works better than long walking for older visitors.
With parents at Rizal Park: The park is mostly level with paths and benches, but it is large and sun exposed. Older visitors should walk the main axis, then ride or sit rather than cover everything.

Pacing
Pacing a Manila trip for parents and children
- Treat Intramuros as a morning outing. The stone paving is uneven and shade is limited, so carry water, wear a hat and plan a rest indoors by midday.
- Use a car or ride-hailing between sights. Distances look short on the map, but heat, traffic and crowded pavements make walking between districts tiring.
- Avoid the LRT and jeepneys during morning and evening rush hours; they are crowded and have steps. Taxis and apps with air conditioning are easier for older travellers.
- Hospital care is available in Metro Manila, but travel insurance with medical cover matters. Carry prescriptions, names of medicines and a printed medical summary.
- Rainy season (roughly June to October) brings flooding and typhoon disruption. If travelling then, keep plans flexible and check forecasts before leaving the hotel.
- Churches such as Quiapo are very crowded on Fridays and around 9 January. Go on a weekday morning if mobility or crowds are a worry.
