Why it matters
Why Gudisa Hilltop is worth your time
Gudisa is unusual in the Maredumilli area: an open grassland on a hilltop in country otherwise covered by dense forest. That openness gives the widest views in the region and has made it one of the best-known sunrise spots in Andhra Pradesh's Eastern Ghats.
Its popularity also brings pressure. Large numbers of visitors, vehicles and litter can damage the grassland and disturb the small village nearby. Visiting in small groups, following the forest office's rules and leaving nothing behind helps keep Gudisa open and unspoilt.

Plan your visit
How to experience it
Gudisa lies about 40-42 km from Maredumilli, and the usual plan is to leave in the dark so as to reach the hilltop before sunrise. The road narrows and becomes rougher towards the end, so go with an experienced local driver in a vehicle with good clearance.
On top, open grassland gives wide views over forested valleys, often with cloud lying below in the cool months. Sunset is also popular, but returning on the forest road after dark is not advisable.
Carry warm layers, water, a flask of tea and snacks, as there are no facilities. Take all litter back with you, and respect any restrictions on camping set by the Forest Department.
Plan with confidence
Small decisions that make the visit easier.
- Check access with the forest office first
- Hire an experienced local driver
- Carry warm layers and tea
- Do not drive back after dark
