The short answer
Amruthadhara Falls: what visitors should know first
Go in the monsoon or just after if you are steady on your feet. The descent of about 1 km is steep and slippery and the climb back is tiring, so older parents with weak knees should skip it.
History and context

Why it matters
Why Amruthadhara Falls is worth your time
Amruthadhara is the wilder of Maredumilli's two main waterfalls. The effort of the steep path is rewarded with a quieter setting, two stages of falling water and a stronger sense of being inside the forest rather than beside the road.
It is also the goal of one of the eco-tourism project's guided treks, which links the community-run camp at Valamuru with the falls. For fit families, walking in and driving out makes a satisfying day in the Eastern Ghats, while less mobile members wait at the camp by the river.

How to experience it
Drive about 15 km from Maredumilli to the entrance and parking. From here a steep path, about 1 km long, descends through forest to the falls, which come down in two stages over rock. Allow about an hour for the visit, more if you rest at the bottom.
Fit walkers can instead reach the falls on the eco-tourism project's guided trek from Valamuru, about 8 km through the forest. Arrange transport back from the falls in advance.
Visitors slide down the rock in places, but bathing is less comfortable than at Jalatarangini, and the current is dangerous after heavy rain. Wear shoes with good grip and carry water.
Plan with confidence
Small decisions that make the visit easier.
- Wear shoes with good grip
- Carry water for the climb back
- Avoid the water after heavy rain
- Book the trek option in advance
