Day 1: Fort and old town
Reach Nagaur Fort when it opens at 9 am and spend two to three hours walking its courtyards, water tanks, painted rooms and pavilions; a guide through the fort or your hotel helps with the stories behind the paintings. Have lunch and rest in the middle of the day. In the late afternoon, take an auto through the old town to visit the Hamiduddin Nagori dargah, then return to the fort ramparts for the evening light.

Pacing
Pacing a Nagaur trip for parents and children
- Visit the fort in the first two hours after it opens at 9 am, when it is cooler, and rest in the shaded courtyards.
- The fort's lanes and floors are stone and uneven; wear closed shoes with grip and carry a hat and water, since shade is patchy.
- If you are staying in the fort, ask for a room near the entrance or a ground-floor room, and ask about assistance with luggage.
- Avoid April to June; visit between November and February. Nights in winter can be cold, so carry a warm layer.
- Do not plan a full day at the cattle fair; go in the morning with a car and driver, because the ground is dusty and facilities are basic.
- Keep medicines and a basic first-aid kit with you: pharmacies are available in town but choices are limited late in the evening.
