Netarhat is a small hill station in Latehar district, on the Chota Nagpur Plateau at an elevation of about 1,128 metres, according to Wikipedia. Jharkhand's tourism material calls it the Queen of Chotanagpur. It is not a town of monuments: its appeal is the cool air, planted pine forest, open views at the plateau edge and an unhurried pace that starts early with sunrise.
The usual day follows the light. Walk to the sunrise spot near the tourist bungalow in the morning, take a vehicle to Koel View Point or the Pine Forest and Pear Orchard in the middle of the day, and finish at Magnolia Sunset Point, named after a colonial-era legend. The Netarhat Residential School, founded in 1954, is the town's other claim to fame, though it is a working campus rather than an attraction.
Beyond the plateau, Upper Ghaghri Falls is a short drive away and Lodh Falls, the highest waterfall in Jharkhand, is a long day trip. Betla National Park and Palamu Fort are further still and best treated as an overnight excursion.
For older travellers, Netarhat is calm and cool but not heavily serviced. Lodging is limited and often run by the state tourism corporation, distances between sights need a vehicle, and some forest outings involve steep or uneven walking. Choose the easy viewpoints, book accommodation early and check local conditions before heading into forest areas.
