Day 1: Temple and stream
Arrive in the morning and visit Nrusinghanath Temple before the heat builds. Walk up the stone steps beside the stream as far as is comfortable, with Chal Dhar and Bhim Dhar close to the temple, and rest in the garden with its large Hanuman statue. Fitter members of the group can continue to Kapil Dhar, about 4 km from the temple. Leave before dusk.

Drive round the range to Harishankar Temple on the southern slope, see the temple and the stream cascades, and stay at the Panthanivas there. Fit trekkers can instead cross the hills on foot with a local guide and meet the car at Harishankar.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Harishankar Temple 2 to 3 hours; overnight if staying at the Panthanivas Moderate November to February; Makar Sankranti and Shivaratri for festivals Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.
With parents at Harishankar Temple: The temple can be reached with a modest number of steps, but the area around the stream is rocky and slippery. Older visitors can enjoy the temple and view the cascades from a safe spot. Staying overnight at the Panthanivas avoids a long same-day drive.

Guides for the stops on these routes
Pacing
Pacing a Nrusinghanath trip for parents and children
- Use a hired car and driver; buses run but are slow and unpredictable.
- Visit the temple and the lower falls in the morning, before the heat and the crowds.
- The steps beside the stream are wet, mossy and uneven; use a stick and stop wherever you feel unsure.
- Do not attempt the 16 km hill crossing unless you are fit and walk regularly; drive round to Harishankar instead.
- Avoid the fair days unless you want the festival itself, as crowds are heavy.
- Carry water, snacks and medicines; services near the temple are basic.
