Plan 01

1 day on Nusa Lembongan

  1. 01

Day 1: Morning boat and the west coast

Take an early fast boat from Sanur, settle at Mushroom Bay or Jungut Batu, and snorkel or take a short boat ride in calm morning water. After a long lunch in the shade, ride a truck to Devil's Tear or Dream Beach for the late-afternoon light, staying behind the ropes. Catch the last comfortable boat back, not the final one.

    StopTime neededWalkingBest time
Mushroom BayHalf a dayEasyMorning or late afternoon, snorkelling near high tide
Jungut BatuHalf a day, or your baseEasyMorning and sunset
Devil's Tear30 to 45 minutesModerateLate afternoon, mid to high tide
Dream Beach1 to 2 hoursModerateMorning or late afternoon

Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.

With parents at Devil's Tear: The approach is by uneven track or steps over rock, with no shade and no handrails along the edge. Older travellers should go by truck to the nearest point and stay well back.

With parents at Dream Beach: Access is via steps and a slope from the road, with limited shade and uneven paths. Older travellers can sit at the cafes above the sand and enjoy the view without going down.

Guides for the stops on these routes

Pacing

Pacing a Nusa Lembongan trip for parents and children

  • Book a stay close to the sand or the road so you can avoid long walks, and arrange a pick-up truck for arrival and luggage.
  • Boats often land you on the beach, and you may wade knee-deep. Ask staff for a steadying hand, wear water shoes and keep valuables in a waterproof bag.
  • Do not swim at Dream Beach or Sunset Beach unless you are a strong swimmer; Wikivoyage warns of rips. Mushroom Bay and the northern mangrove area are the safer water.
  • Stay behind the ropes at Devil's Tear and take care at the unfenced cliff edges on Nusa Ceningan.
  • Only small clinics operate near Jungut Batu. For anything serious you return to Bali, so carry travel insurance with evacuation cover and your regular medicines.
  • Plan outdoor time before 10 am and after 4 pm; shade is patchy and roads are rough and hilly.
