1 day in Nusa Penida

Day 1: South-west cliffs from Bali
Take an early fast boat from Sanur and arrange a car with driver in advance. Head to Kelingking Beach for the viewpoint, then Broken Beach and Angel's Billabong along the same coast. Have lunch on the way and return to the harbour well before the last boat. Skip the descent to Kelingking sand unless the group is fit. The day is long, and sea conditions can change schedules, so confirm return tickets.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Kelingking Beach 1 to 2 hours at the rim; much longer if you descend Moderate Early morning for softer light and fewer people Broken Beach (Pasih Uug) 30 to 45 minutes Easy Morning, with soft light on the arch Angel's Billabong 20 to 40 minutes Moderate Morning at low tide, with local guidance Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.
With parents at Kelingking Beach: The rim viewpoints are reachable by car or scooter but have steps, uneven paths and little shade. The descent to the beach is not suitable for older travellers, anyone with knee or balance problems, or small children.
With parents at Angel's Billabong: The approach is over uneven rock with no shade and slippery patches. Not suitable for anyone with balance problems. Even fit visitors should stay away from the water if waves are reaching the platform.

Day 2: East coast and temples
Start early for Atuh and Diamond Beach, with a stop at Tembeling if energy allows. On the way back, visit Pura Goa Giri Putri and Pura Ped in appropriate dress. Return to the harbour in good time for your boat.

With parents at Diamond Beach: Expect uneven steps and rough roads. The cliff-top viewpoint requires little walking, but the beach itself is a climb back up in the heat. Bring water and take breaks.
With parents at Pura Goa Giri Putri: Steps lead up to the cave and the entrance is small, with a stoop needed inside. Uneven floors and low light. Not suited to anyone with limited mobility or a fear of tight spaces.

Pacing
Pacing a Nusa Penida trip for parents and children
- Book a car with a driver and agree the day's route and price in advance. Rough, steep roads and few services make independent travel hard for older visitors.
- Choose the viewpoint, not the descent, at Kelingking, Atuh, Diamond Beach and Peguyangan. Sources describe steep, rugged stairs and paths, and the climb back in heat is the hard part.
- Cross by sea on calm days and sit near the back on an aisle. Wikivoyage warns that fast boats can be rough and wet, with some past capsizes, so wear a lifejacket.
- Start early and rest through the middle of the day; Wikivoyage warns of heat up to about 40 degrees Celsius and little shade at the coast.
- Carry travel insurance, regular medicines and a copy of your prescriptions. Medical infrastructure on the island is limited, with a hospital listed at Sampalan; serious cases may need to cross to Bali.
- Do not enter the pool at Angel's Billabong or swim at the base of cliffs without local advice. Wikivoyage says the pool may be entered only at low tide.
