Taleti Road (base of the hill)
Best for: Pilgrims and anyone who wants to be at the climb at first light
Good to know: The road to the hill is lined with dharamshalas and basic guest houses. Rooms are plain, meals are often fixed-time, and some dharamshalas prioritise Jain pilgrims, so confirm availability and any rules before travelling. Very convenient, but noisy around festival dates and Kartik Purnima.
Sights in this area: Shatrunjaya Hill climb, Taleti Road and the base of the hill
- 02
Palitana town centre and bus stand
Best for: Budget travellers and those arriving by bus or train
Good to know: Several modest hotels sit near the bus stand and station, within an auto ride of the hill. Simple and inexpensive, with limited English and variable upkeep, so read recent reviews before booking.
- 03
Adpur village (Vijay Vilas Palace)
Best for: Travellers who want a quiet, characterful stay with views of Shatrunjaya
Good to know: A former royal country retreat built in 1906, a few kilometres outside town, now run as a small family heritage stay. Peaceful and comfortable but you need a car to reach the hill, and it is much quieter than the town.
- 04
Bhavnagar city
Best for: Those who want better hotels, restaurants and hospitals
Good to know: About 50 km away, roughly an hour and a half by road. A practical base if you will do Palitana as a day trip and combine it with Takhteshwar Temple or Velavadar. The early start for the hill will mean a very early departure.

Before you book
What to check when booking for older travellers
- Ask for a lift, or a ground-floor room — many heritage hotels have steps and no lift.
- Check how far the hotel is from the sights you care about, in minutes by road, not kilometres.
- Prefer free cancellation until close to the date, in case plans or health change.
- Look for 24-hour reception, in-house dining and a doctor-on-call policy.
- Read recent reviews for noise — old-city streets and wedding venues can be loud late.
