Plan 01

1 day in Raja Ampat

  1. 01

Day 1: Waisai and a short boat trip

A single day only works if you already sleep near Waisai. Take a morning boat to Piaynemo or Kabui Bay, which are the nearer sights, return before the afternoon swell, and buy your marine park permit and cash in Waisai first. Do not attempt Wayag in a day trip.

    StopTime neededWalkingBest time
WaisaiHours to one nightEasyAny time; plan around ferry and flight times, and avoid the midday heat
Piaynemo (Pianemo)Half to full day including the boat rideModerateOctober to April is the usually quoted calmer, drier window (Wikivoyage); confirm sea conditions with your operator
Kabui BayHalf day by boatEasyOctober to April is the usually quoted calmer, drier window (Wikivoyage); confirm sea conditions with your operator

Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.

With parents at Piaynemo (Pianemo): Wikivoyage describes a viewpoint over the karst landscape, about 1.5 to 2 hours by speedboat from Waisai. The boat ride is the main effort, and the viewpoint involves a climb. Handrails, step count and shade are not something we could verify, so ask your operator before taking parents.

2 days in Raja Ampat

  2. 02

    Day 2: Piaynemo or Arborek

Choose either a morning boat to Piaynemo for the karst view or a visit to Arborek village and its jetty reef. Return to Waisai for onward travel.

Guides for the stops on these routes

Pacing

Pacing a Raja Ampat trip for parents and children

  • Choose a base with direct jetty access and ask whether staff will help with boarding.
  • Avoid the longest crossings, such as Wayag; Piaynemo or Kabui Bay are gentler.
  • Carry travel insurance with medical evacuation cover and your regular medicines.
  • Plan activities early in the morning and rest through midday heat.
  • Ask about generator hours and whether a fan or lights run at night.
  • Carry cash, water and snacks; services in the islands are limited.
