Plan 01

1 day in Ras Al Khaimah

  1. 01

Day 1: Old town and the creek

Start at the National Museum of Ras Al Khaimah when it opens, then step across to the Mohammed bin Salem Mosque to see its coral-stone walls from outside. Drive to Dhayah Fort in the late afternoon, climbing only if the heat and your knees allow, and end with sunset on the Al Qawasim Corniche and dinner nearby.

    StopTime neededWalkingBest time
National Museum of Ras Al Khaimah1 to 1.5 hoursEasyMorning on a Tuesday to Sunday, any season; a good refuge in the hot months
Mohammed bin Salem Mosque20 to 30 minutesEasyMorning, outside prayer times
Dhayah Fort1 to 1.5 hours including the climbDemandingLate afternoon from November to March, with daylight to spare
Al Qawasim Corniche1 to 2 hoursEasyLate afternoon to evening, November to March

Pace: Dhayah Fort involves a lot of walking or steps — do it early, and keep the rest of the day light.

With parents at Dhayah Fort: The climb is 239 zigzag steps up a hill about 70 metres high, rocky and uneven, with no handrails to rely on and no shade. It is not accessible to wheelchairs or prams. Treat the top as optional and enjoy the base area instead.

Plan 02

2 days in Ras Al Khaimah

  1. 01

    Day 1: Heritage

Spend the morning at the National Museum and the old mosque, then rest through the afternoon. Visit the Al Jazirah Al Hamra heritage village in the cooler late afternoon and wander the corniche after dark.

    StopTime neededWalkingBest time

Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.

With parents at Al Jazirah Al Hamra heritage village: Paths are uneven sand and rubble with little shade and no benches. The site is unmanned, so go with someone and avoid summer heat. Wheelchair use would be difficult.

  2. 02

    Day 2: Jebel Jais

Drive up the mountain road in the morning to the Jais Viewing Deck Park for the views and a coffee. Watch the Jais Flight riders if you do not want to ride, then come down for a beach or pool afternoon at Flamingo Beach.

Guides for the stops on these routes

Pacing

Pacing a Ras Al Khaimah trip for parents and children

  • Visit between November and March; in summer, limit outdoor sights to early morning or after sunset.
  • Dhayah Fort has 239 uneven steps, no lighting and no mobility access, so treat the climb as optional and enjoy the view from the base.
  • The National Museum, Saqr Park and the corniche are mostly level; museums and malls make good rest stops.
  • Ask your hotel to arrange vegetarian or Jain meals before arrival, and carry a medication list.
  • Hospitals include RAK Hospital and Saqr Hospital according to the official site; travel insurance for medical cover is strongly advised.
  • The mountain road to Jebel Jais has hairpin bends; take a taxi or driver if you are prone to motion sickness.
