How to reach Sambhar Lake by air

Jaipur International Airport (JAI) is the main gateway, about 80 km away and roughly 2 hours by road. Kishangarh airport (KQH) is also under 100 km. Both need a car or taxi onward.

How to reach Sambhar Lake by train

Sambhar Lake Town (SBR) is the local station on the North Western Railway, and Phulera Junction (FL), about 7 km away, has many more trains. Check running days and timings on a live railway timetable, since services vary.

How to reach Sambhar Lake by road

From Jaipur, the usual road runs southwest via the Delhi-Ajmer highway and Phulera, about 70 to 80 km in total and around 2 hours. One travel account reports a poor, potholed stretch after the Bichoon turn-off, so allow extra time.

Getting around Sambhar Lake

Local autos and taxis exist in Sambhar town, but the lake edge, the salt works, Shakambhari temple and Naliasar are far apart. Most visitors hire a car and driver for the day, and some arrange local guides for lake access.

For parents and senior travellers

Easy transfers to and in Sambhar Lake

  • Plan this as a day trip from Jaipur with a car and driver; the roads are the slowest part, and a stop-and-go day is easier if the car is yours for the whole day.
  • Carry water, a hat and snacks. Toilets are limited, so use facilities in town before heading to the lake or the hill temple.
  • Do not drive onto marshy parts of the lake bed; vehicles can get stuck. Stay on firm tracks and listen to your driver.
  • Daylight is the safe window. Aim to be back on the main road before dark, especially after the potholed stretch past Bichoon.
  • Ask the airline or railway for wheelchair or porter assistance when you book, not on the day.
  • Pre-book the pickup from the airport or station, so nobody has to negotiate with drivers after a long journey.
  • Choose arrivals in daylight where you can, and keep the first afternoon free to rest.
