Seminyak guide · Where to eat
Places to eat in Seminyak, with what to order and how comfortable each is for families and older travellers.
Updated
Seminyak is a restaurant district, and almost every cuisine is represented. Indonesian classics, Western cafes, Japanese, Mexican and Mediterranean menus all sit along Jalan Kayu Aya and the streets around it. Merah Putih is the best-known upscale Indonesian restaurant.
For Indian travellers, there is a small but useful cluster of Indian restaurants. Queen's Tandoor, on Jalan Raya Seminyak, has served Indian food in Bali since 2004 according to its own site, and is a mixed menu. For pure vegetarian meals, Namaskar Thali on Jalan Kunti I serves thalis, and Vrindavan, on the same street, describes itself as pure Indian vegetarian. Confirm the current name and hours of both before you go, as listings differ.
Jain travellers should plan ahead. No Seminyak restaurant was found that serves only Jain food, though Namaskar Thali is reported to prepare food without onion and garlic with a day's notice. Beach clubs and fine-dining restaurants use mixed kitchens, so ask in advance. Vegan travellers can find plant-based cafes in the area, but verify each one, as ghee, honey and dairy appear on some vegetarian menus. Hotel kitchens can often prepare simple vegetarian meals with notice.
Menus and kitchens change. If you follow a strict diet or have an allergy, confirm with the restaurant before you order.
