Plan 01

1 day in Sidhi

  1. 01

    Day 1: Forest and river

Start with a dawn safari in the Sanjay Dubri Tiger Reserve if you have booked a slot in advance. Return to Sidhi for a late breakfast and a rest. In the afternoon, drive to Chandreh to see the 10th-century Shiva temple and monastery, and look at the Son and Banas rivers nearby if time allows.

Plan 02

2 days in Sidhi

  1. 01

    Day 1: Safari day

Take a morning safari in Sanjay National Park, rest through the heat, and take an evening safari if your booking allows. Ask the Field Director's office in Sidhi in advance which zones are open.

    StopTime neededWalkingBest time
Sanjay National ParkTwo safaris (morning and evening) minimum; a full 2 nights is betterModerateWinter and early summer for cooler drives and visible wildlife; heavy rain in July to September makes the forest hard to access

Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.

With parents at Sanjay National Park: Safaris are seated jeep rides on rough forest tracks, with bumps, dust and no toilets en route. Getting in and out of a high gypsy is hard for people with knee or back problems; ask whether a canter or a gentler zone is available. Winter mornings are cold in an open vehicle.

  2. 02

    Day 2: Rivers and temple

Spend the morning at Chandreh Shiva temple, then visit a stretch of the Son Gharial Wildlife Sanctuary with a local guide or driver. Return to town before dark.

    StopTime neededWalkingBest time
Son Gharial Wildlife Sanctuary2 to 3 hours as a river-bank visitModerateWinter, when water is lower and birds are active; the monsoon brings high water and makes banks unsafe

Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.

With parents at Son Gharial Wildlife Sanctuary: Banks can be uneven, sandy and slippery, with little shade, seating or toilets. Choose a calm stretch, go with a local guide or driver, and avoid steep banks if mobility is limited.

Plan 03

3 days in Sidhi

  1. 01

    Day 1: Arrive and settle

Arrive by road from Rewa or Singrauli, check in, and visit the Field Director's office or confirm bookings. A short evening walk in town is enough after travel.

  2. 02

    Day 2: Two safaris

Morning and evening drives in Sanjay National Park and, if the reserve allows, the Dubri sector. Rest at midday.

Guides for the stops on these routes

Pacing

Pacing a Sidhi trip for parents and children

  • Plan at most one safari a day and rest after lunch; open jeeps are bumpy and tiring.
  • Visit in December to February so the early start is cool but the afternoon is not punishing.
  • Ask the Field Director's office about vehicle height and seating before booking.
  • Carry medicines, water and snacks; services outside Sidhi are limited.
  • Hire a private car with a driver who knows the roads for Chandreh and the river sanctuary.
  • Book in advance: lodging and safari slots are limited.
