Area by area

Siliguri neighbourhoods compared

  1. 01

Near New Jalpaiguri station and Bhaktinagar

Best for: Late arrivals and early train departures

Good to know: Convenient for catching the early train or toy train, and many hotels here are used to early checkouts. The area is busy and noisy, and the station is some distance from the main town, so budget transfer time.

  2. 02

Hill Cart Road and the city centre

Best for: Shopping, restaurants and easy cab access

Good to know: Hong Kong Market, restaurants and bus stands are all close, and hotels range from simple to business class. The trade-off is traffic and noise, so ask for an upper-floor room away from the road.

  3. 03

    Sevoke Road side

Best for: Families and seniors wanting a calmer base

Good to know: Slightly quieter residential streets with good hotels and restaurants, and a straightforward drive to Sevoke, the bridge and the sanctuary. Check lift access and taxi pickup if you have luggage or mobility concerns.

  4. 04

    Near Bagdogra airport

    Best for: Early flights

Good to know: Useful if you are flying out at dawn. The surroundings are less attractive and restaurants are limited, so use it only for a short transit stay.

Before you book

What to check when booking for older travellers

  • Ask for a lift, or a ground-floor room — many heritage hotels have steps and no lift.
  • Check how far the hotel is from the sights you care about, in minutes by road, not kilometres.
  • Prefer free cancellation until close to the date, in case plans or health change.
  • Look for 24-hour reception, in-house dining and a doctor-on-call policy.
  • Read recent reviews for noise — old-city streets and wedding venues can be loud late.
