How to reach Sringeri by air

Mangaluru International Airport (IXE) is the nearest major airport, about 110 km away, roughly 3 to 3.5 hours by road depending on traffic and the ghat sections.

How to reach Sringeri by train

Shivamogga Town (SMET) and Kadur (KDU) are the main railheads, each about 90 to 110 km away; Udupi (UD) on the Konkan line is also used. Onward travel is by bus or taxi.

How to reach Sringeri by road

Sringeri is about 315 km from Bengaluru; one common route is via Hassan, Belur and Chikmagalur, then through Koppa. KSRTC and private buses link major cities. Hill sections are slow and best avoided after dark or in heavy rain.

Getting around Sringeri

The temple core is walkable and the footbridge to the south bank is pedestrian-only. Auto-rickshaws and call taxis cover Kigga and Sirimane Falls; four-wheeler parking is on the north bank of the Tunga.

Easy transfers to and in Sringeri

  • Ask at the Information Centre for a free foldable wheelchair before you join the queue.
  • Avoid June to September if you can; the monsoon is heavy and roads in the ghats can be slippery.
  • Carry a shawl and wear modest traditional clothing; leave footwear at the stands and keep small change handy.
  • Ask the airline or railway for wheelchair or porter assistance when you book, not on the day.
  • Pre-book the pickup from the airport or station, so nobody has to negotiate with drivers after a long journey.
  • Choose arrivals in daylight where you can, and keep the first afternoon free to rest.
