Plan 01
1 day in Vagamon
- 01
Day 1: Meadows, pines and a sacred hill
Start at the Vagamon Meadows early, while the grass hills are clear and the light is soft, and walk the open ridge slowly. Move on to the pine plantation for a shaded walk, then lunch in town. In the afternoon, drive to Thangal Para or Kurisumala, whichever suits your energy, and finish with the late light over the valley. If you are driving on towards Thekkady or Munnar the same evening, leave by mid-afternoon: the ghat roads are slow.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Vagamon Meadows 1 to 2 hours Moderate Early morning or late afternoon; November to March for the clearest views Thangal Para 1 to 2 hours Moderate Early morning; October to March Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.
With parents at Vagamon Meadows: The ground is open and mostly grassy, but it is uneven and exposed, with little seating and no shade. Wind and cool air after noon can tire older visitors. Walk only as far as is comfortable, and keep the car close.
With parents at Thangal Para: A vehicle track runs part of the way, after which there is a short, uneven climb to the rock and shrine. Handrails and seating are limited, and the surface is slippery after rain. Older visitors can stop at the lower viewpoints.
Plan 02
2 days in Vagamon
- 01
Day 1: Open hills and tea country
Spend the morning at the Meadows and the pine plantation, with a slow lunch and a rest. In the later afternoon, take a drive through the tea estates around the town and stop where the road allows for photographs. Keep the evening simple; it gets cool and misty.
- 02
Day 2: The three hills and the adventure park
Go early to Thangal Para, then to Kurisumala and, if you like a short climb, Murugan Para. Come back for lunch and, if the group wants it, spend the afternoon at the Kolahalamedu adventure park. Check the glass bridge's current rules and queue times, since they have changed and not every visitor is allowed on it.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Thangal Para 1 to 2 hours Moderate Early morning; October to March Murugan Para 1 to 2 hours Moderate Early morning; October to April Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.

With parents at Murugan Para: A moderate climb on uneven ground, with limited seating and shade. Older visitors with knee problems may find it tiring. The shrine is small, so you can stop and rest at the base.

Day 3: Estates, a waterfall and the road on
Walk through tea country in the morning, then visit Marmala waterfall only if it is dry and you are happy with the walk in. Leave after lunch for Thekkady, Munnar or Kumarakom; allow generous time on the ghat roads.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Marmala Waterfall 2 to 3 hours including the walk Demanding September to March; avoid heavy rain Pace: Marmala Waterfall involves a lot of walking or steps — do it early, and keep the rest of the day light.

Guides for the stops on these routes
Pacing
Pacing a Vagamon trip for parents and children
- Hire a car or jeep for the whole day. Distances look short on a map, but the roads climb and twist, and having a vehicle waiting makes rests easy.
- Thangal Para, Kurisumala and Murugan Para all involve slopes or stairs; ask your driver how far the vehicle can go and choose just one or two in a day.
- The adventure park's glass bridge has been restricted for visitors who have difficulty walking, so check the current rules and consider the Meadows and pine plantation instead.
- Carry a light jacket or windcheater. It cools quickly after midday, and mist can bring a sharp drop in temperature.
- In the monsoon, paths at the pine forest, Marmala waterfall and the sacred hills turn slippery. Wear shoes with grip and skip waterfall walks in heavy rain.
- Eat and drink at established places, and keep any regular medicines with you; pharmacies are in the larger towns, not at the viewpoints.
