Area by area

Vagamon neighbourhoods compared

  1. 01

Vagamon town and the Meadows side

Best for: First-time visitors who want to be close to the main viewpoints

Good to know: Convenient for the Meadows, the pine plantation and the town's restaurants. Weekends and holidays are busy and rooms fill up. Check road access and steps before you book, especially if travelling with older parents.

  2. 02

    Elappara side

Best for: Quieter stays among tea and coffee estates

Good to know: Elappara lies between Vagamon and Kuttikkanam, with estate scenery and a calmer feel. You will need a car for most sights, and some estate roads are narrow and steep.

  3. 03

    Kuttikkanam and Peermade

Best for: Travellers combining Vagamon with Thekkady or Munnar

Good to know: Kuttikkanam sits at about 1,100 m and Peermade at about 915 m, on the road towards Thekkady. They make sensible overnight halves for a longer hill route, though they are not walking distance from Vagamon's sights.

  4. 04

    Near the Kolahalamedu plateau

Best for: Adventure-park visits and paragliding days

Good to know: Handy for early starts at the pine forest and adventure park. Facilities are limited at the plateau itself, and mist and wind can make evenings cold and exposed.

Before you book

What to check when booking for older travellers

  • Ask for a lift, or a ground-floor room — many heritage hotels have steps and no lift.
  • Check how far the hotel is from the sights you care about, in minutes by road, not kilometres.
  • Prefer free cancellation until close to the date, in case plans or health change.
  • Look for 24-hour reception, in-house dining and a doctor-on-call policy.
  • Read recent reviews for noise — old-city streets and wedding venues can be loud late.
