Why it matters
Why Sagareshwar Beach is worth your time
Sagareshwar represents the Konkan beach as it was before crowds: calm sand, trees and a small temple. It makes a gentle contrast with Goa's busy beaches a short drive south.
For older travellers it offers a short flat walk and shade, with no activities to organise. The beach is also the most convenient place in town to see the sunset over the sea without a long drive, and the casuarina belt, the shells and the quiet temple at the end give it a modest character that rewards a slow visit rather than a long one.
Highlights

Possible dolphins
Dolphins are sometimes seen near the southern end in the mornings.
Plan your visit
How to experience it
Sagareshwar is reached through the tall casuarinas that hide the beach from the road. You can enter via the MTDC tent resort or a path to the Shiva temple, which has a large lamp column; the temple is usually open only when the priest visits.
The sand is soft and often holds shells, with low dunes in places. Walk along the shore in the late afternoon, when the light is soft and the heat has eased. At night the jetty lights and the lighthouse beam can be seen from the beach.
Do not swim. The sea has undercurrents and sudden drops, and there are no lifeguards. Mochemad beach, about 9 km away, is another scenic stop for those with a car.
Plan with confidence
Small decisions that make the visit easier.
- Do not swim; there are no lifeguards
- Carry water and snacks
- Visit in the late afternoon
- Combine with the lighthouse and jetty
