Why it matters
Why Vengurla Lighthouse and Jetty is worth your time
The lighthouse and jetty show Vengurla's long life as a port. The rocks off the coast made the light important to ships, and the jetty links the town to the same trade that brought the Dutch.
The working harbour is the part that has lasted: boats, nets and the evening catch are as much the town's heritage as the ruined factory. It also gives first-time visitors a sense of the town's layout, with the creek, the jetty and the hills visible together, and the evening return of the boats is one of the most direct ways to see the fishing economy at work.

How to experience it
Drive or take an auto to the jetty, about 3 km from town. The lighthouse stands on a small hill, established in 1931, and a path through shrubs leads up to the plateau. From the top you see the ocean, the jetty and its boats, and the creek trailing out to the sea.
Back at the jetty, time your visit for about five in the afternoon, when the fishing boats return and the catch is sorted on the quay. It is a working harbour, so stay out of the way and ask before photographing people.
On some mornings, dolphins are seen offshore, though sightings are not guaranteed. Combine this stop with the Dutch factory in town.
Plan with confidence
Small decisions that make the visit easier.
