Plan 01
1 day in Ari Atoll
- 01
Day 1: A day on a local island
A one-day visit is only realistic from a resort or a base on Rasdhoo. Take an early speedboat or seaplane, walk Rasdhoo in the morning, and spend the middle of the day resting over lunch. Use the afternoon for a short snorkelling trip with a licensed operator, and return to your base before dark.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Rasdhoo Half a day, or 2 to 3 nights as a base Easy Dry months, December to March Pace: All the stops today are easy on the legs.
Plan 02
2 days in Ari Atoll
- 01
Day 1: Arrive and settle in
Reach your island by seaplane or boat from Malé. Keep the afternoon free and walk the island once the heat eases.
- 02
Day 2: On the water
Book one boat outing, such as a snorkel trip or a sandbank visit, in the morning, and rest after lunch. On the south side, a whale-shark trip can fill the day if you are a confident swimmer.
Plan 03
3 days in Ari Atoll
- 01
Day 1: Arrive
Transfer from Malé, check in and rest. A short evening walk is enough.
- 02
Day 2: Boat day
Spend the morning on a snorkelling or diving trip suited to your party, and take the afternoon off.
- 03
Day 3: Village and farm
If you are in the north, visit Thoddoo's farms or Ukulhas's waste-managed village. If you are in the south, walk Dhangethi's shipyard and street, and plan your transfer home in good time.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Thoddoo Half a day to one night Easy Dry months, December to March Ukulhas Half a day, or 2 to 3 nights Easy Dry months, December to March Dhangethi Half a day, or 1 to 3 nights Easy Dry months, December to March Pace: All the stops today are easy on the legs.

Pacing
Pacing a Ari Atoll trip for parents and children
- Plan boat journeys for the morning, and ask whether the boat has a covered seat, life jackets and a step down to the jetty. Fatal propeller accidents have been reported near South Ari whale-shark sites, so choose licensed operators.
- The islands are flat, but sand and heat make walking tiring. Walk before 10 am and after 4 pm, and carry water.
- GOV.UK says the only fully equipped hospitals are in Malé and Hulhumalé. Mahibadhoo has an atoll hospital with basic tests, but buy insurance that covers treatment and medical evacuation.
- Carry medicines in their original packaging, with a doctor's note, and keep a spare supply in hand luggage.
- For parents who do not swim, choose a resort or guesthouse with a calm lagoon, and skip open-water whale-shark trips.
- Check whether your accommodation has air conditioning, a nearby jetty and a fan-free quiet period for rest.
