Plan 01

1 day in Arki

  1. 01

Day 1: Fort and cave temple

Start at Arki Fort in the morning for the Diwan-i-Khas frescoes, then walk down to the bazaar for tea. After lunch, drive the short distance to Lutru Mahadev cave temple, and return to town in the late afternoon.

    StopTime neededWalkingBest time
Arki Fort1 to 2 hoursModerateMorning, March to June or October to November; avoid July and August rain
Lutru Mahadev Cave Temple45 to 60 minutesModerateMorning; avoid heavy monsoon days; Shivratri for the festival

Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.

With parents at Arki Fort: The fort sits on a hill above the town, with steep lanes, steps and uneven stone floors inside. Seating is limited. Older visitors can enjoy the exterior and courtyard and skip the upper rooms.

With parents at Lutru Mahadev Cave Temple: The approach road climbs steeply and the cave itself is low, damp and uneven. It is not ideal for those with mobility problems, balance issues or claustrophobia. Take a stick, wear grippy shoes and move slowly.
