Day 1: Beach and Henry Island
Leave Kolkata very early so you reach Bakkhali by late morning. Start with a walk on the beach, then hire a toto for Henry Island, about 5 to 6 km away, for the mangrove path and watchtower. Have an early lunch, rest in the heat and return to the beach in the late afternoon for the lit stretch near the town. Start back before dark, since the road journey is long.

2 days in Bakkhali

Day 1: Arrival and beach
Travel from Kolkata in the morning, check in and rest after the road. In the late afternoon walk along the beach, look for the red crabs and see the sunset. Dinner at your hotel, with fresh fish if available.

Day 2: Fraserganj and Henry Island
Walk the beach early, then take a toto to Fraserganj to see the fishing harbour and the wind farm. After lunch, go to Henry Island for the mangrove path and the watchtower. Return to Kolkata the next day or that evening if you have a car.

Day 1: Arrival
Travel from Kolkata, crossing the Hatania Doania creek at Namkhana. Settle in and walk the beach near the town before dinner.

Day 2: Henry Island and the crocodile centre
Go early to Henry Island for birds and the watchtower. On the way back, stop at the crocodile breeding centre, then rest through the afternoon. Visit the Bishalakshmi temple at the end of the beach in the evening if you wish.

Day 3: Fraserganj and departure
Walk the beach at dawn, then see the fishing harbour and the wind farm at Fraserganj. If sea conditions and local rules allow, ask about a boat ride around Jambudwip, but do not plan around it. Begin the journey back to Kolkata by midday.

Pacing
Pacing a Bakkhali trip for parents and children
- Plan the road journey from Kolkata with a car and a driver who knows the route, and allow 4 hours each way, breaking the trip if you need to.
- Choose a hotel with ground-floor rooms, good lighting and a reliable generator, and ask about the distance to the beach.
- Walk the flat beach in the early morning or late afternoon; the middle of the day is hot and has little shade.
- Carry any medicines you need and a basic first-aid kit; medical facilities are limited, with a small primary health centre at Fraserganj.
- Skip the Jambudwip boat ride unless the sea is calm and you are comfortable in small open boats.
- Carry cash in small notes, since cards are rarely accepted and ATMs may be empty.
