After lunch, visit Kapileshwar Temple in the older part of the city, then drive past Suvarna Vidhana Soudha. End at one of the kunda sweet shops and buy a box to take home.

Take a car to Kittur Fort, about 50 km away, for the palace ruins and the Rani Chennamma museum, and decide on the day whether to carry on towards Dharwad. If you prefer scenery, go instead to Gokak Falls, ideally between the monsoon and early winter when the river is full but the approach is safe.

Day 3: Forest or pilgrimage
Choose between Bhimgad Wildlife Sanctuary, for which you should contact the forest department in advance, and the Yellamma temple at Saundatti. Both are long days by road. Bird-watchers in winter may swap in the Ghataprabha reservoir sanctuary, after confirming access locally.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Bhimgad Wildlife Sanctuary Full day Moderate November to March Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.
With parents at Bhimgad Wildlife Sanctuary: Roads in the forest can be rough, there are few facilities and help is far away. Better for fit older travellers with a driver familiar with the area.

Pacing
Pacing a Belagavi trip for parents and children
- The city is at about 760 metres and mild; even so, afternoons can be warm from March to May, so schedule outdoor sights in the morning.
- Belagavi Fort has a wide moat and uneven ground; ask your driver to wait close to the gate and take the temple and mosque at an easy pace.
- The fort is inside an army area. Carry photo ID and expect questions at the gate.
- Kittur and Gokak are roughly one to two hours by road each way; start early and plan a proper lunch stop.
- For Bhimgad and Ghataprabha, confirm access with the forest department first. Facilities are minimal and roads can be rough.
- Saundatti's Yellamma temple is very crowded around festival days; choose an ordinary weekday if you prefer space.
