Plan 01
1 day in Belonia
- 01
Day 1: Sanctuary morning, Pilak afternoon
Check with the forest office the day before that Trishna Wildlife Sanctuary is open, then head out early with a hired car. Spend the morning at the sanctuary and, if the access road allows, Rajbari National Park. Return to town for lunch and a rest, then drive to Pilak for the afternoon light on the stupa mounds and terracotta plaques. Finish at the Raj Rajeswari temple in Muhuripur if there is time before dusk.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Trishna Wildlife Sanctuary Half to full day including travel Moderate November to February, early morning Rajbari National Park Half a day including travel Moderate November to February, early morning Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.
With parents at Trishna Wildlife Sanctuary: The roads to the sanctuary are narrow and the tracks inside are rough, with no benches or shops that could be confirmed. Short stops from the vehicle suit older travellers better than long walks.
With parents at Rajbari National Park: There are no seating areas, toilets or shops, and the tracks are rough. Older travellers should stay in the vehicle where staff allow and avoid the wet season, when the ground is slippery.

Guides for the stops on these routes
Pacing
Pacing a Belonia trip for parents and children
- Telephone the forest office before travelling to Trishna and Rajbari; the sanctuary has listed closing days and the tracks can be impassable after rain.
- Carry water, snacks and any medicines for the day. There are no shops or clinics near the sanctuary gates.
- Pilak and the Raj Rajeswari temple are largely level and walkable, making them the easier sights for parents.
- Travel between November and February. The rest of the year is hot, humid or soaking, which is tiring and makes forest tracks slippery.
- Book a car with driver for the whole day. Waiting for a local bus after the afternoon is risky.
- Medical facilities are basic in Belonia; Agartala has the main hospitals, so carry a prescription list and enough supplies.
