Day 1: Temple and forest
Leave early from Mysuru or Chamarajanagar, enter the sanctuary at opening time and visit the Biligiri Ranganatha temple first. Take a jeep to the Dodda Sampige Mara and, if booked, a short safari. Leave before the evening closing time.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Biligiri Ranganatha Temple About 1 hour Moderate Morning, with the clear air of October to February Dodda Sampige Mara 30-45 minutes Easy Morning, with the safari Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.
With parents at Biligiri Ranganatha Temple: Visitors can reach the temple by vehicle or on foot, but there are steps and a steep drop behind the shrine, with railings added. Monkeys are common, so older visitors should hold on to bags.

Pacing
Pacing a BR Hills trip for parents and children
- Choose a vehicle-based plan: jeep safaris and the temple by car need little walking.
- Book the K Gudi camp early and confirm lighting and power arrangements.
- The temple has a steep drop behind it; stay behind the railings and watch for monkeys.
- Carry medicines, a torch and water; medical help is far away.
- Leave the reserve by the evening closing time unless staying inside.
- Skip the Honnametti trek unless you are fit and have forest approval.
