BR Hills neighbourhoods compared

  1. 01

    K Gudi, inside the sanctuary

Best for: Wildlife visitors who want to be at the safari start

Good to know: The Jungle Lodges camp and forest rest houses are here. Remote, with limited power and no nightlife; book well ahead.

  2. 02

    Chamarajanagar town

Best for: Budget travellers and those arriving without a booking

Good to know: Many small hotels and the forest office. About 40 km from K Gudi by the reported route, so plan early starts.

  3. 03

    Yelandur

Best for: A shorter approach to the hills

Good to know: A small town with basic lodging and jeep hire, about 18 km from the sanctuary entry on that side.

K Gudi Wilderness Camp (Jungle Lodges)

K Gudi, inside BRT Wildlife Sanctuary · Forest camp · Price band: ₹₹₹

A Jungle Lodges and Resorts tented camp inside the sanctuary, with full-board stays, safaris and an elephant pond that draws wild elephants.

For older travellers: The camp is spread over flat ground, with short walks between tents and the dining area, but lighting is dim after dark and nights are quiet and remote. Medical help is far away.

Before you book

What to check when booking for older travellers

  • Ask for a lift, or a ground-floor room — many heritage hotels have steps and no lift.
  • Check how far the hotel is from the sights you care about, in minutes by road, not kilometres.
  • Prefer free cancellation until close to the date, in case plans or health change.
  • Look for 24-hour reception, in-house dining and a doctor-on-call policy.
  • Read recent reviews for noise — old-city streets and wedding venues can be loud late.
