Plan 01

1 day in Fatehgarh Sahib

  1. 01

Day 1: The gurdwara circuit and Sirhind

Reach Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib by 8 am, before the queue builds at Bhora Sahib, and spend about two hours at the sanctum, sarovar and langar. Walk or ride to Burj Mata Gujri, then drive to Gurdwara Jyoti Sarup. After a rest, visit Rauza Sharif in the afternoon and finish at Aam Khas Bagh while the light is soft. Check opening arrangements at the Mughal sites before you leave.

Gurdwara Jyoti Sarup30-45 minutesEasyMorning or late afternoon
Rauza Sharif45-60 minutesEasyMorning; autumn to early spring
Aam Khas Bagh45-60 minutesEasyOctober to March, morning

Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.

With parents at Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib: Marble floors are level and there is a lot of shaded walking, but you will be barefoot and the floor can be very hot in summer or cold in winter. Ask the sevadars about the wheelchair route and mats laid for seniors. Allow a seat break at the sarovar edge.

Plan 02

2 days in Fatehgarh Sahib

  1. 01

    Day 1: The three gurdwaras

Start at Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib at dawn and allow a slow morning with langar. Visit Burj Mata Gujri and Gurdwara Jyoti Sarup before lunch, rest through the hot hours, and return to the main gurdwara in the evening for the quieter lamp-lit atmosphere.

Guides for the stops on these routes

Pacing

Pacing a Fatehgarh Sahib trip for parents and children

  • Go early. The main gurdwara is calmest before about 9 am, and the marble is cooler underfoot. Carry a head scarf and socks for the shoe counter in winter.
  • Bhora Sahib involves a queue and a few steps down; ask a sevadar about the easiest route if mobility is limited.
  • Do the three gurdwaras with a car and driver rather than walking between them, especially in heat.
  • Avoid the Shaheedi Jor Mela in late December unless you are an experienced pilgrim with a younger companion.
  • Aam Khas Bagh and the haveli have uneven ground; stay on the main paths and skip interiors if the footing looks unsafe.
  • Carry water and any medicines. Facilities outside the gurdwaras are basic.
