The short answer

Awana SkyWay: what visitors should know first

Take it if you are staying or day-tripping and want to skip the hill road. It is the standard way to the summit, with views over forest and a Chin Swee stop. Check it is running on the day, as maintenance closures happen.

The story behind Awana SkyWay

The original Awana SkyWay opened in 1975, and the current line opened in 2016 and became the main link from the mid-hill area. It runs about 2.6 km with a stop at Chin Swee.

Why it matters

Why Awana SkyWay is worth your time

The Awana SkyWay opened in 2016 and became the main connection to the summit. It matters to your trip because it determines how tiring and slow the day is: the road is long, hairpinned and congested at peak times, while the cable car turns the same climb into a quiet scenic ride.

It is also a good vantage point. The ride is the best way to see how the resort sits on the mountain, the lower slope, the forest and the cloud line, without any hiking. For older travellers, it is the gentlest way to reach both the resort and Chin Swee.

Highlights

What not to miss

  1. 01

    The forest ride

The gondola glides over rainforest and gives the best view of how the resort is set on the ridge.

  2. 02

    The Chin Swee stop

Hop off at the intermediate station to visit the temple and rejoin the line.

  3. 03

    Skipping the road

Parking at Sky Sentral and riding up avoids the hairpin road and most of its traffic.

Plan your visit

How to experience it

Most visitors reach Sky Sentral by coach, car or taxi, then ride the Awana SkyWay up. The bus terminal and Premium Outlets are close, so you can combine shopping with the ride. Cars park at Sky Sentral, which is how many families avoid the hill road.

On the way up, the gondola climbs over rainforest, and on clear days you can see the folds of the range. The mid-point is Chin Swee station, where you can get off to visit the temple and then rejoin the line. The upper station is at SkyAvenue, where the lift and escalator network takes you into the resort.

Travel early if you can. Queues grow through the late morning and are worst on weekends and school holidays. When the Awana line closes for maintenance, the older Genting SkyWay is the usual alternative, so check which line is open before you plan.

Plan with confidence

Small decisions that make the visit easier.

  • Check that the Awana line is running; maintenance closures are announced in advance
  • Arrive early on weekends and holidays to avoid long queues
  • Carry a light jacket for the cool air at the top
  • Use the Chin Swee station if you plan to visit the temple
  • Keep your ticket handy for the return ride
