Plan 01

1 day in Hastinapur

  1. 01

Day 1: Jain complexes and Mahabharata sites

Start early at the Digambar Jain Bada Mandir, then walk or ride to Kailash Parvat Rachna. Continue to Jambudweep before the afternoon heat. After lunch at a dharamshala or local restaurant, visit Pandeshwar and Karna temples, then Vidur ka Tila if energy allows. Finish with Draupadi Ghat at a quiet hour and head back before dark.

    StopTime neededWalkingBest time

Kailash Parvat Rachna45–90 minutesModerateMorning or late afternoon
Jambudweep1–2 hoursModerateMorning; darshan hours are listed as 6 am to 8 pm, so confirm locally

Vidur ka Tila30–60 minutesModerateMorning, October to March
Draupadi Ghat20–40 minutesEasyEarly morning or late afternoon

Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.

With parents at Kailash Parvat Rachna: Seeing the structure from ground level is easy, but the tiers involve steps and may be tiring. Ask staff which parts are accessible and take a rest at the courtyard shade.

With parents at Jambudweep: The grounds are wide and mostly level, but climbing to the Sumeru model involves 137 inner stairs. Older visitors can enjoy the displays at ground level.

Plan 02

2 days in Hastinapur

  1. 01

    Day 1: The Jain heartland

Spend the morning at the Digambar Jain Bada Mandir and Kailash Parvat Rachna. After a long lunch, visit Jambudweep, where you can stay until the evening darshan.

Day 2: Epic sites and the floodplain

Visit Pandeshwar and Karna temples and Vidur ka Tila in the morning. After lunch, drive to the edge of Hastinapur Wildlife Sanctuary for a quiet river and grassland outing, confirming access beforehand with the Meerut forest office.

Hastinapur Wildlife SanctuaryHalf a dayModerateNovember to February, early morning

Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.

With parents at Vidur ka Tila: Paths up the mounds are uneven and have few places to sit. Viewing from the lower approach is possible, but the small hilltop temple needs a short climb.

With parents at Hastinapur Wildlife Sanctuary: The ground is flat, but tracks are rough and dusty or muddy, shade and seating are scarce and there are no developed facilities. A car with good ground clearance and a driver who knows the area helps a lot.

Guides for the stops on these routes

Pacing

Pacing a Hastinapur trip for parents and children

  • Hire a car for the day; the temple clusters are spread out, and shade and seating between them are limited.
  • Visit the Jain complexes in the morning and rest through the afternoon; Kailash Parvat and Jambudweep involve steps.
  • Wear easily removed footwear and cover shoulders and knees at all the temples; bring socks in winter for cold stone floors.
  • Carry bottled water and any medicines, and eat at the Jain dining halls or other freshly cooked places.
  • Treat the Mahabharata-linked sites as quiet village shrines and expect uneven ground, especially at Vidur ka Tila and the ghat.
  • Avoid the festival days (Kartik fair, Akshaya Tritiya, Das Lakshana) unless you want large crowds.
