Why it matters
Why Chaloklum Fishing Village is worth your time
Chaloklum shows ordinary north-coast life, centred on the sea. It is cheaper and quieter than the west-coast cafes, and it is the practical access point for Bottle Beach and the temple on the hill.
For vegetarians, it is mostly a place to see rather than eat; seafood dominates. Still, the Sunday market, the pier at sunset and the small white Wat Chaloklum give a fuller sense of the island than a beach-only trip.

How to experience it
Chaloklum is about 12 km north of Thong Sala, around 20 to 30 minutes by car. Squid and fishing boats moor in the bay, seafood restaurants line the pier, and local vendors sell the catch in the early morning.
On Sundays the main street and pier fill with food stalls, crafts and live music from late afternoon. Many stalls sell grilled seafood; reports say vegetarian stalls are also present, but ask at each one for jay or mangsawirat food. Watch the sunset over the bay, which is one of the highlights.
Boats to Bottle Beach leave from the east end of the beach, and the Kuan Yin Chinese temple sits on the hill to the south. Snorkel at Haad Khom, a short trip east, in the calm season.
