1 day in Kolli Hills

Day 1: Ghat road, temple and viewpoints
Drive up early from Karavalli, stopping at viewpoints on the hairpins. Visit Arapaleeswarar Temple in the morning, then decide whether to descend to Agaya Gangai; if not, have an early lunch and go on to Masila Falls. End the afternoon at Seekuparai viewpoint and drive down before dark.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Arapaleeswarar Temple 45 to 90 minutes Easy Morning, before the waterfall walkers and day tourists arrive Masila Falls 1 to 2 hours Moderate During and after the monsoon, roughly August to November; weekdays are calmer Seekuparai Viewpoint 45 to 90 minutes Moderate Sunrise or late afternoon on a clear day, outside the mist of the monsoon peak Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.
With parents at Masila Falls: A concrete path leads to the falls, so the walk is less rough than at Agaya Gangai, but there are steps and slopes. Rocks and the wet path are slippery. Take it slowly and use the handrails where present.
With parents at Seekuparai Viewpoint: The approach is a short walk, but the watch tower has stairs and at least one section was photographed without side bars. Seniors can enjoy the view from ground level and skip the tower.

Guides for the stops on these routes
Pacing
Pacing a Kolli Hills trip for parents and children
- Take motion-sickness medication before the ghat road and ask the driver to go slowly.
- Do not attempt the full Agaya Gangai stairway unless you are fit; the climb back is the hard part.
- Masila Falls, Vasalurpatty Lake and Seekuparai are the more manageable sights.
- Carry water, a hat and a light layer; air cools on the plateau.
- Travel in daylight and avoid the ghat road after dark or in heavy rain.
- Check stay facilities in advance; amenities are limited on the hills.
