For parents and senior travellers
Easy transfers to and in Koraput
- Plan one major outing per day. Most sights are 45 to 90 km from Koraput on winding ghat roads, and the drive is the tiring part.
- Carry water, snacks, motion-sickness tablets and any regular medicines. Facilities at remote sights are basic and hospitals are in the towns.
- Avoid the monsoon months of June to August; roads and trails are slippery and views are often lost to cloud.
- Hire a car with a driver who knows the ghat roads, and be back at the hotel before dark.
- Ask the airline or railway for wheelchair or porter assistance when you book, not on the day.
- Pre-book the pickup from the airport or station, so nobody has to negotiate with drivers after a long journey.
- Choose arrivals in daylight where you can, and keep the first afternoon free to rest.
