Area by area

Koraput neighbourhoods compared

  1. 01

Koraput town (near the Jagannath temple)

Best for: First-time visitors and anyone who wants to walk to the temple and museum

Good to know: Most of the town's hotels are here, including the Odisha Tourism unit Hotel Alishan and several private options listed on the district site. Rooms vary widely, so check recent reviews, hot-water supply and lift access before booking.

Sights in this area: Sabara Srikhetra Jagannath Temple, Tribal Museum, Koraput

  2. 02

    Sunabeda

Best for: Quieter stays with a township feel

Good to know: Sunabeda is the HAL aircraft-engine township a short drive from Koraput on the highway. The district lists Odisha Tourism's Roma Resort here. It is calmer than the town centre but a little further from the museum and temple.

  3. 03

    Jeypore

Best for: Travellers who want more hotel choice, markets and the airport

Good to know: Jeypore is the district's main trading town, about 22 km from Koraput, with a larger choice of hotels. It suits Jagannath Sagar, the Kolab reservoir and early starts towards Gupteswar, but it is further from Deomali and the hill viewpoints around Koraput.

Sights in this area: Gupteswar Cave Temple, Jagannath Sagar and Old Jeypore, Upper Kolab Reservoir and Kolab Park

Before you book

What to check when booking for older travellers

  • Ask for a lift, or a ground-floor room — many heritage hotels have steps and no lift.
  • Check how far the hotel is from the sights you care about, in minutes by road, not kilometres.
  • Prefer free cancellation until close to the date, in case plans or health change.
  • Look for 24-hour reception, in-house dining and a doctor-on-call policy.
  • Read recent reviews for noise — old-city streets and wedding venues can be loud late.
