Kottayam (KTYM) is the main station, at Nagampadam about 2.5 km from the town centre, on the Thiruvananthapuram to Ernakulam line with long-distance and regional services. Ettumanoor and Chingavanam are among other stations in the district.

Easy transfers to and in Kottayam

  • Churches, the mosque and temples are short, mostly level stops, but all involve bare feet on stone, so go early or late when the floor is not hot and ask for car drop-off at the gate.
  • Carry a hat, an umbrella and water; showers can arrive at any time from June to November.
  • Ask the airline or railway for wheelchair or porter assistance when you book, not on the day.
  • Pre-book the pickup from the airport or station, so nobody has to negotiate with drivers after a long journey.
  • Choose arrivals in daylight where you can, and keep the first afternoon free to rest.
