Plan 01
1 day in Lhaviyani Atoll
- 01
Day 1: Resort day and house reef
Treat the atoll as a single-resort stay. If you arrive by seaplane in the morning, settle in, snorkel the house reef before the sun gets high, and keep the afternoon for rest. A one-day visit is only realistic as a stopover, and a day trip from Malé is not practical by seaplane for most travellers.
Plan 02
2 days in Lhaviyani Atoll
- 01
Day 1: Arrive and snorkel
Take the morning seaplane, check in, and snorkel the house reef in the late afternoon when the heat eases.
- 02
Day 2: Boat excursion
Book a morning boat trip through the resort, either a guided snorkel at Fushifaru Thila in the manta window or a visit to the atoll capital, Naifaru, if you want to see local life.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Fushifaru Thila Half a day by boat including briefing and surface interval Moderate Reported manta peaks: October-November for divers, February-April for snorkellers; sightings vary year to year Naifaru 2-4 hours Easy Morning and late afternoon, outside the hottest hours Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.
With parents at Fushifaru Thila: This is a boat-based activity with no shore access. Getting in and out of a dhoni or dive boat involves a ladder or low step, and a swell can make it uncomfortable. Older travellers who are confident swimmers can snorkel from the boat; others should skip it rather than risk the entry.
Plan 03
3 days in Lhaviyani Atoll
- 01
Day 1: Arrive and settle
Arrive by seaplane, rest, and take a short house-reef snorkel.
- 02
Day 2: Manta or dive day
Certified divers can book a channel dive such as Kuredu Express; others can snorkel with a guide. Keep the afternoon free.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Kuredu Express Half a day including briefing Demanding Dry season, December to April, is reported to give more predictable channel conditions Pace: Kuredu Express involves a lot of walking or steps — do it early, and keep the rest of the day light.
With parents at Kuredu Express: This is a technical drift dive for experienced divers only. Strong, variable current makes it unsuitable for anyone with limited fitness, heart or lung conditions, or limited diving experience. Older travellers should enjoy the sharks through photographs and talks at the dive centre.
- 03
Day 3: Naifaru and departure
Visit Naifaru in the morning if your resort can arrange it, or spend a quiet last morning at the spa before the seaplane back to Malé.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Naifaru 2-4 hours Easy Morning and late afternoon, outside the hottest hours Pace: All the stops today are easy on the legs.

Pacing
Pacing a Lhaviyani Atoll trip for parents and children
- Ask your resort about seaplane boarding. Floating platforms and short steps are normal, and staff can usually assist.
- Choose a small island or a room near the main area to keep walking short in the heat.
- Carry travel insurance with medical evacuation cover; Naifaru's hospital is the only one in the atoll.
- Snorkel in the morning and rest after lunch. Sun and salt tire people quickly.
- Bring regular medicines in the original packaging, plus a prescription letter, and keep them in hand luggage.
- Do not attempt channel dives such as Kuredu Express without recent experience.
